Nike Toki ND "Varsity Red/ Black/ Metallic Gold"

Nike releases another Nike Toki ND in a brand new colorway.  Check out a detailed look after the jump.

"Nike have a habit of axing some fantastic makeups. These Toki NDs are a great version of the shoe that takes it a little bit further in the colourway stakes and to our knowledge, they won't be reaching shelves at all. It's not an injustice at the level of the carbon fibre effect Alpha Force II or Air Salbis GTX that never saw release despite being some of the best shoes of the last decade. That would be a gross exaggeration. But these still trump most of their competition in the colour stakes. Some previous Toki colourways have been a little too conservative (the lemon yellow versions get a pass), but these get it right. The black nylon piping, leather swoosh and suede forefoot and tongue offers a neat contrast for the red suede on the upper, and the gold striping and branding is decent too.

Hiking-style laces and, bizarrely, polka dots on the lining are pleasantly unnecessary, and this shoe is still some grown-man footwear, that, despite our initial misgivings due to its Vans Chukka styling, has got some Nike identity in the mix. We can't call what sees light-of-day, but these are surprisingly decent in the flesh, looking like the Outbreak's serious sibling. It's all a bit Mickey Mouse. When a shoe's this basic, it's tough to find much new to say, but we'll always soldier on in the name of verbal diarrhea. These should have been spared, while some of the more mediocre pieces of the showroom should have stayed at sample stage. But what do we know? The aberration that is the Nike Sixton plimsole is shifting units right now. Oh, the humanity. " -Crooked Tongues Magazine
